STAYING FIT FOR THE SUMMER
By Kira Babiarz
With the school year coming to a close athletes are planning out their summer workouts.
Athletes Adib Butt and David Whitey explain their summer schedule.
“I am going to go play soccer and run over the summer, that’s my routine,” Says Adib, “I’m just
going to work out and keep my body in shape.”
David, however, has a different training plan.
“I ride my bike back and forth from my friends’ house and then we go over to the community
pool and swim.”
Since this year is coming to a close the boys talk about what sports they plan on participating in
the next school year.
“I am participating in swim next year,” explains David, “and maybe soccer, and definitely track.”
“I plan on participating in cross country, soccer, and track.”
Both then go on to explain the goals they have for next year.
“I am going to get twenty-five seconds in the fifty,” Says David, “right now I am at a 29.7.”
Adib has some goals for himself also.
“I just want to beat people at track. I also just want to score one goal in soccer even if I am a
defender.”
With the school year coming to a close all we can say is good luck, and we cannot wait to see
what you have for us in the future.

Every boy’s dream is to become a football player in the NFL, whether they go in the first round of the draft, or they go udrafted. All anybody ever thinks about is getting paid millions of dollars just to play the sport that they grew up playing with their friends. Rarely, some of us actually do fulfill our dreams and we do make it to the NFL, but some players just throw that away for nothing.
It seems like a broken record every time ESPN talks about how another NFL player has been arrested for possession of drugs, driving under the influence, or beating their wife in an elevator.
Then, as kids, we ponder as to how a grown man could be so dumb that he is throwing his dream and life away just to get arrested. Doing such things have severe consequences in the NFL. Players that have previously been charged with using drugs, such as marijuana and Adderall have been suspended for a full year without pay, or even suspended indefinitely.
Growing up, we look up to these players to be our role models, as most kids in this generation grow up without a male role model in their lives. We would spend our whole Sunday watching the boring games just so we could stay up for Sunday Night Football. We would even watch Monday Night Football and Thursday Night Football despite our mothers telling us that it’s way past our bed times.
We grew up loving and thinking that these players are perfect and we wanted to be just like them. Now, instead of trying to beat the opposing teams, they beat their wives and girlfriends. Instead of smoking the opposing team, they smoke illegal drugs. Instead of destroying the opposing team, they destroy alcohol bottles as they drink them.
This is not what we want to be when we grow up, these are not the same players that used to act as role models and donate most of their earnings to charity. We do not spend our whole Sunday watching football just to learn that a player from our favorite team has been arrested for spending his money on drugs or alcohol, instead of spending it on charitable events.
These players are not only ruining their own lives, they are also ruining the young kids lives that look up to football players. Their parents are no longer supportive of their kid’s dreams to be a football player, and they no longer allow their kids to watch ESPN or any NFL game unsupervised.
Now, all that they talk about during halftime and Sports Center is how another player has been arrested for domestic violence or the use of illegal drugs.
This is not what we want to be when we grow up, these are not the same players that used to act as role models, this is not why we love football.
We love football for the thrill, for the games that head to over time, for the hard hitting on the field, for the Sunday afternoons that we get to spend with our family and friends, and for the players that still represent what a football player is supposed to be.

The blazing sun above your head, hard concrete below your feet, friends and family cheering you on as you race towards the finish line. That is how Lucas Montano, Adib Butt, and David Witty explain what it feels like to be in track. I had an opportunity to sit down with the three to have them explain what it’s like to be on the track team and the experiences they had this season.
“I have a sunburn from districts,” Says David, showing off his tan lines.
“I almost tripped in the shower this morning because of how sore my muscles are.” Jokes Adlib.
With districts finished the three talk about their events.
“I ran the 100-meter and the 400-meter in districts,” says Adib, “I placed 13th in the 400-meter and finished in 12.69 seconds in the 100-meter.”
“I ran the 100-meter and the 200-meter and did the long jump. I placed last in all of them,” chuckles Lucas.
The three continue to talk about why they started track.
“I’m just doing it to stay in shape for swimming,” admits David, “I also ran in middle school, but it’s mostly for swim.”
“I’m just staying in shape for football,” says Lucas.
“I’ve always been fast, but I’m staying in shape for Soccer,” says Adib.
“We are all kind of in track to stay in shape for our primary sports, everything else is a bonus,” chuckles David.
The three then go on to talk about what it’s like to be on the track team.
“The track team is like a large family,” explains Adib, “they are always there to help and support you. Everyone is supportive, especially the seniors, so when they leave it will suck.”
“They are the heart of the team,” says Lucas.
The three go on to give advice to future track runners.
“Don’t suck.” Jokes Lucas.
“When you run you can’t hear what anyone is saying, so don’t worry about them,” says David.
“There is an event for everyone, you just have to find the one that suits you,” says Adib.
Track may not be the primary sport for Lucas, David and Adib, but they still can’t wait for next season when they get to do this all over again.

There’s 15 seconds left. She’s determined. She’s focused on one thing: the goal. She sprints, pushes with all her mite to dribble the ball with her feet to reach the white, intimidating goal that determines the end of the game.
Tori Witkowski (11th) has played soccer ever since she was ten years old, however being a junior in high school, she may not see herself playing in college.
“I want to go to UNF.” Explains Witkowski, “But I’m still deciding if I want to play soccer in college.”
While college sports may still be an option, Witkowski explains that she has a form of motivation that makes her strive for accomplishments.
“My older brother motivates me,” smiles Witkowski.
With motivation comes accomplishments and this soccer champion is very familiar with such achievements.
“By playing soccer I’ve gotten a lot of trophies and medals by winning tournaments,” proudly says Witkowski.
Although soccer is a huge aspect of Witkowski’s life, she also has to take time for academics.
“It gets hard at times.” Explains Witkowski, “But you have to learn how to manage your time.”
The girl’s soccer team may not have won as many games as they would liked to, they have performed very well on the field, and if there’s any advice to take it’s “to work hard, play hard,” as Witkowski laughs.

Assassin's Creed Review

Throughout the course of history humanity has been blessed with many amazing game franchises. In most recent years one has began to make a name for itself in our nerdy little world. Assassin's Creed.
Now unlike Call of Duty who has a faithful following of 12 year old fanboys who spit out more profanities than Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street, Assassin's Creed has made a point to bring something new to each and every release.
The most current release, Assassin's Creed Unity, has become perhaps the most popular and best episode in the saga. It's release on next generation consoles has allowed it to reach new heights. Let's start with the basics. ACU has adapted a completely remastered parkour element. With virtually no restriction on where you can climb, the player accesses a new sense of freedom in the ever expanding world.
Players can now embrace a "downwards climb" in which Arno, your master assassin, simply scales down the side of buildings. This makes navigation quite easy because haystacks are no longer required for descent.
This brings me to my next point of AWESOME for the franchise. The introduction of the Anvil engine has allowed for literally THOUSANDS of on-screen characters to be supported. The perfect detail for revolutionary Paris, the games setting.
These massive crowds are not only great hiding places, but are also responsive to your actions. Kill a guard in front of a group of rioting citizens, and they'll storm the palace faster than the police at 7/11 when they put out fresh donuts.
ACU broke even another barrier with an all new multiplayer. Now you, and up to 3 other dorito eating, mountain dew drinking nerded out friends can take to the roofs and streets of Paris with a single objective. Not only in multiplayer do you face a single goal.
Ubisoft granted us with unrestricted freedom with our campaign missions. They give an objective, and that's it. You approach it how you see fit whether that be stealth or balls to the wall insanity with swords a swinging like your William Wallace. Take this for example, there are over 50 entrances to the Notre Dame. Imagine how may ways there are to slice and dice your Templar target.
Between this and an all new character customization accompanied by a skill tree, no 2 playthroughs are the same. Bottom line, Assassin's Creed Unity is the best thing since Wi-Fi. Both Xbox and Playstation players are able to enjoy the bloodshed being that it's released on both platforms. Rating: 10/10

She Steps up to the base, and matches her feet with her shoulders. The crowd stays quiet and she brings the bat up at perfect angle, then breathes in. The ball is pitched coming towards her at an incredible speed, where she then swings the bat to match perfectly with the ball sending it across the field. Though the crowd is screaming, she only hears one thing, “Tessa Bear! Too Infinity and beyond!”
Tessa Shade is a senior and has been playing on Fivay’s softball team since she was a freshmen, but her passion for softball came long before fivay. Shade started playing baseball in her backyard as a little girl at six with her grandpa who introduced her to the sport.
“It started with those plastic bats and balls you get from Walmart but then turned into something I became very passionate about and my grandpa who played all his life couldn’t of been more thrilled,” Smiles Shade.
Shade and her grandpa were inseparable and would play every day, after school, weekends and he even coached her little league team for a year. When Shade realized that home runs were her talent, her grandpa’s quote that everyone in town knew was, “Tessa Bear! Too infinity and beyond!”
The Quote came from their favorite movie Toy Story, and because it was yelled every game by him, it pushed her to be faster and faster. Landing Shade the nickname “Buzz Light-year” on her team.
Shade’s grandpa became a favorite to all her teammates. While coaching, his yelling took over the game, though it embarrassed Shade it had her running faster and giving every game her all.
As Shade got older and as her grandpa did, the stands were where he yelled and while most grandparents try and take it easy, he would not miss a game and didn’t let anyone forget that he was there.
“No matter how sick or how much pain, he was at every game yelling and screaming, even though he was getting older he still made sure he was there to say “Tessa Bear Too infinity and beyond!” and It became something I was use to hearing, ” Says Shade.
In summer 2013 shades grandpa had passed away and the person who inspired her the most throughout the years was gone. Soon Shade realized that she was now playing softball for something way more than a trophy or another MVP award.
“Without my grandpa I would be nowhere near where I am now, he pushed me more than anyone and now every game I play is for him.” Proudly states Shade.
Shade wants to go to college and major in computer science after graduation. While attending collage she hopes to volunteer as a coach for girls softball and carry on the techniques her grandpa gave her.
Even with her best coach gone Tessa Shade still plays softball, and every time she goes up to that plate , she swings that bat with every she’s got. Then when that balls flies only one thing pops in her head, “Tessa Bear! Too infinity and beyond!”

Patriots win super bowl XLIX
By David Welsh
Every year in February, the AFC and the NFC sends their best team to the Super Bowl to compete head to head for bragging rights of who the best team in the NFL really is.
However, even though these match-ups are the two best teams in the NFL, they don’t always seem that way.
Take last years Super Bowl for example, where the Seattle Seahawks completely manhandled the Denver Broncos en-route to their 48-8 win and their first ever Lombardi trophy.
Fortunately for football fans, this year’s Super Bowl was how all Super Bowl’s should be—a sitting on the edge of your seat and biting your finger nails kind of game.
The New England Patriots came into this game as the #1 seed, as did the Seattle Seahawks. However, the Patriots were playing for their 4th Lombardi, compared to Seattle playing for a 2nd in back to back years. Ironically, that hasn’t been done in a decade since the 2004-2005 Patriots.
The Patriots went on a outstanding 13 play drive early in the first quarter to try and build up momentum, however that momentum was suddenly stopped short when quarterback Tom Brady threw an ill-advised interception to Seahawks cornerback, Jeremy Lane.
This hurt the Patriots deeply because they were already easily in field goal range with Stephen Gostkowski at the helm.
Unfortunately for Patriots fans, that wasn’t the last ill-advised interception that Tom Brady would throw.
Tom Brady was driving the Patriots down the field as he was all night, when Seattle linebacker Bobby Wagner intercepted a pass intended for tight end, Rob Gronkowski.
With the score all tied up with 31 seconds remaining before the half, Seahawks running back, Robert Turbin busted through the Patriots defensive line for a gain of 19 yards, which would eventually propel the Seahawks to the 11 yard line.
With six seconds remaining before halftime and in field goal range, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll elected to go for a touchdown instead of kicking the field goal and putting three points on the board.
This play turned out to be brilliant because Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson threw a touchdown pass to previously unknown wide receiver, Chris Matthews.
At halftime the score was dead even at 14-14 which meant that it was still anyone’s game.
The Seahawks went right out and scored an unanswered 10 points in the third quarter alone, compared to the Patriots who did not score in the third quarter.
However, right when Seahawks fans were starting to get comfortable with a 10 point lead heading into the 4th quarter, Tom Brady put on one of his most clutch clinics in history.
Tom Brady went on to throw two touch down passes to propel the Patriots to a 4 point lead with just 2:02 left in the game.
With the two minute warning ahead and all three timeouts, the Seahawks were pretty confident that they could get a touchdown to give them their 2nd Lombardi trophy.
Supporting their case, Russell Wilson immediately went into clutch mode and threw a 31 yard strike to Seahawks running back, Marshawn Lynch.
With 1:14 left in the game and still needing 38 more yards to get in the end zone for a touchdown and the lead, the Seahawks needed a miracle to win this game.
A miracle is what they received when Seahawks receiver Jermaine Kearse made one of the most unbelievable catches in Super Bowl history that had the whole universe in disbelief. Kearse gained 33 yards and propelled the Seahawks just 5 yards away from a Super Bowl victory.
On the next play of the game, Marshawn Lynch fought all the way down to the 1 yard line for a four yard gain.
On second and 1 yard to go, with 26 seconds left in the game, and all Patriots fans closing their eyes and praying that Marshawn Lynch fumbles the ball, the Seahawks unbelievably do not hand the ball off to arguably the best running back in all of football.
Instead Russell Wilson throws a quick slant to receiver Ricardo Lockette, and just as all Patriots fans are about to shut off their television in disbelief, an undrafted rookie, Malcolm Butler intercepts Wilson’s pass and seals the victory for the New England Patriots.
Tom Brady ran out the remainder of the clock and earned himself his 4th Lombardi trophy since entering the league in 2000.
Following one of Brady’s kneel downs, an all out brawl immediately broke out and Seahawks linebacker Bruce Irvin was ejected from the remainder of the game.
As for Brady, he broke plenty of records, including surpassing Hall of Famer Joe Montana’s all time Super bowl touchdowns with 13. Brady also broke the Super Bowl record of completions with 37/50 for 328 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions.
Tom Brady ended up winning the Super Bowl MVP award, however we all know that Seahawks coordinator Darrell Bevell will be the real MVP in the mind of Patriots fans everywhere for calling the pass at the one yard line, #WorstCallEver.
In the end, Tom Brady is just happy that he wasn’t facing the New York Giants again—David Tyree anyone?

Call Of Duty: Opinionated Warfare

Advanced Warfare (n): Far or ahead in development for engagement in or the activities involved in war or conflict.
In the newest addition to the Call of Duty franchise “Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare”, released November 4, 2014, there are many new gadgets and items to the game. The exo-suits are some of the freshest pieces of technology in a Call of Duty game since the AGR in Call of Duty: Black ops II.
The advanced weaponry of Advanced Warfare is a bit over the top and unnecessary to me. For example, the EM1.”The EM1 is battery-powered technology, essentially providing an infinite amount of ammunition. Under prolonged fire, it can be overheated and cause a depletion of the battery, rendering it unusable for a short amount of time. The weapon can be manually vented before it overheats by pressing the reload button after firing.
Otherwise, the battery will recharge quickly when not in use.” The Call of Duty website states. In my opinion, the EM1 should not be allowed in multiplayer as it has unrealistic ability, which Call of Duty’s are famous for.
It isn’t just the awkward weapons that aren’t the greatest, the entirety of the game isn’t very well put together. The campaign of most Call of Duty’s are lucidly the same.
The cliché of the supposed good guy turning out to be the enemy has been over used many times before, such as Call of Duty: Ghost and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The missions were a bit different and fun, but the story line of the campaign was very predictable in my opinion.
The developers of Call of Duty: Advance Warfare, Sledgehammer Games, Raven Software, and High Moon Studios, tried too hard to create a game as well as Treyarch created Call of Duty: Black Ops I and II and call of Duty: World at War. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, in my opinion, will never reach the success that the Treyarch Call of Duty’s have, but the game is not entirely terrible.
The multiplayer game modes, such as Uplink or Momentum, have made more creative and interesting ways to have fun on Call of Duty in general. The game Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is not a terrible game, but it is not the best compared to the older and previous Call of Duty’s.

The hot burning, dirt covering your face, and clay caked under your fingernails. For most, it’s a nightmare but for others it’s a dream.
Kasey Toohey, the girls’ softball starting third baseman, has an undying passion for softball.
“I’ve been playing softball since I was seven,” said Toohey. “I also used to play on a Traveling team.”
Those years of practice have paid off. Kasey, and five other freshmen, has a spot on the varsity softball team.
“I play third base because of my skills, I guess. I’m on varsity because of what I can do.”
Not only does Kasey play third base, she has a record of playing in different positions.
“I’ve played shortstop, second base, first base, and pitcher.” Even at the beginning of the season Kasey has high hopes for post-season competition.
“I really hope we make it to districts, and even win, that would be amazing.” The advice she gives to anyone who dares to step onto the softball field is to never give up.
“Don’t think of the worst outcomes, think positive.” Look forward to seeing Kasey walking the halls with a sunburned face and dirt covering her pants.
